Menswear is such a tricky area to get right. If you stick to the basics you’ll be branded as boring. But if you go creative then you’ll only attract a small client base. Yes, menswear is a limiting area and I expect it’s exciting for designers to try and tackle this challenging market. For autumn/winter 09 Carolyn Massey has found the perfect balance between everyday, wearable clothing and more design driven styles, ideal for the adventurous.

Tailored suits were edgy and the long length blazers made a nice change from the usual casual jacket. Capes and high shine jackets were definitely for the more fashion forward man. Bow ties added personality and strangely sat well against the more post grunge looks.

Did you happen to catch Ozwald Boateng’s documentary – “Why style matters”, at the weekend? If not click here to watch it on BBC iplayer. The programme explores Boateng’s background, influences and his love affair with Savile Row.

Interesting fact: In 1994, rather than follow convention, Boateng distributed a video invitation to guests for his debut presentation in Paris. We’ve managed to dig the video up (see below). The quality isn’t great but it’s an apt reminder that Boateng is a visionary.

Two fashion no no’s – mankini’s and crocs, and preferably not worn together. However it looks like we have another fashion faux pas to add to the list. Boots worn with suits. Judging from John Legend’s efforts, this look clearly doesn’t work!

So this has got to be the most anticipated performance of the year. The moment Jay-Z was confirmed as an act at Glastonbury he faced criticism..and…he silenced his critics. His performance was amazing!
