Skullcandy Headphones

Forget your inner-ear headphones that constantly fall out, feel uncomfortable and generally provide more sound quality for the person sitting next to you – it’s all about on-ear or over-ear headphones, and we’re loving the offerings from Skullcandy.

Utah based brand Skullcandy produce the coolest music listening gear around, boasting a host of special ranges including an NBA player series and various artist collaborations. Drawing much of their inspiration from hip-hop culture it’s no surprise that one of their stand-out collaborations comes from Snoop Dog, whose intricately patterned Skullcrushers are bound to turn heads. Complete with 30mm neodymium magnetic speakers and mini-sub woofers, the headphones allow listeners to take the Snoop bassline wherever they go.

If Snoop headphones aren’t quite your thing then the newly re-styled classic Lowriders are a slightly more subtle option for stylish head gear. Available now, the new Lowrider has shed its plastic surface for a matt satin texture skin, coming in coral, blue, purple, white and yellow these headphones add a pop of colour to any outfit. With plush ear pillows, nylon cable and an integrated microphone that’s compatible with iPhone and Blackberry the Lowrider is a on-ear headphone for the ultimate sound experience.

Just which colour to choose? If you’re as spoilt for choice as we are then take a look at the full Skullcandy range here.

MFL for Him Gadgets: Powermat

The Powermat: No, it’s not one of those vibrating things you stand on that gets rid of your cellulite, it’s a wireless charging system for your phone, ipod or other small electrical device. As slight tech-phobes here at MFL for him our initial thought was, what? No wires?! But as we’ve discovered it’s a bit like wearing a brogue without a sock and adding a trouser turn up – it shouldn’t work but it does, see the evidence here.

So basically you take your iPhone/ Blackberry/ Nintendo DS/ other electrical device… (delete as appropriate) slip a receiver on it, and stick it on the Powermat to charge. At the moment you can get receivers that are designed especially for the Apple iPhone, Apple iPod touch, Apple Dock, and the Blackberry Bold, Curve and Pearl, and for the rest of your phones/devices you can get the Powerdock which includes 8 tips for a whole range of devices. Pretty simple, eh?. We could tell you how it works but the fact that it magically charges without wires is enough to keep us fascinated for a while at least.

But on to the important stuff – the mat itself comes in two styles, the travel version that folds into three and comes with handy US and EU adaptors and the sleek home and office version that’s designed to be a discreet addition to your surroundings – we can imagine playing the ‘guess the gadget’ game with it could be quite fun, as long as it doesn’t get mistaken for a super-sleek, super-long coaster, that is.

So if wires are simply too last season for you then we can highly recommend the Powermat, prices start at £69.99 for the Home and Office mat, £29.99 for the Powercube, and £34.99 for the iPhone receiver. Available from Powermat and Amazon.

Fashion Meets Technology Again: Dior Homme’s iPhone Holder

When fashion last teamed up with technology, My Fashion Life was left wowed at aesthetics, but rather disappointed over the functionality of the Nokia 7900 Crystal Prism. Now nothing can be taken away from the visual masterpiece Fredrique Dubal brought to us in the Prism. However, such is the mind of the average consumer that when fashion is infused into technology and malfunction occurs, fashion tends to be seen as fall guy. For instance, Nokia’s move to beautify the Prism may be viewed as the oversight in delivering a functional phone.

Well fashion, courtesy of Dior Homme, has ventured into the lifestyle/technology market again, but this time around fashion has provided a foil to an already venerated piece of technology: the iPhone.
