Guillaume Canet in Yves Saint Laurent

Yep, that’s it right there. That is how to wear a suit. French actor Guillaume Canet shows us how it’s done as he attends the premier for the Woody Allen film ‘You’ll meet a tall dark stranger’ at Cannes this week. That is – how to wear a suit and look effortlessly stylish whilst doing so.

We can’t decide whether the secret is in his nonchalant pose or the fact that he’s wearing top-to-toe Yves Saint Laurent in the form of a black tuxedo, white shirt, black tie and black lace-ups. We’ve got a sneaking suspicion that it’s probably both of these factors, coupled with an annoying yet admirable ‘je ne sais quoi’ that French men have when it comes to dressing.

Oh and there’s one more rather dazzling addition that contributes to Guillaume’s effortless cool, and that’s in the form of the very beautiful Marion Cotillard. Guillaume’s girlfriend Marion looked stunning at the Chopard 150th anniversary party earlier in the week wearing a Lefranc Ferrant sequined jumpsuit.

We’re looking forward to seeing their creative talents brought together as Marion stars in ‘Les Petits Mouchoirs’ later in the year – a film directed by the very stylish Guillaume.

Samuel L. Jackson in Armani

King of Cool Samuel L. Jackson has been showcasing his sartorial style once again as he attended the US premier of Iron Man last week. Along with his signature round glasses and cap combo he was decked head to toe in Giorgio Armani, sporting a casual ensemble of relaxed tailoring.

Mixing a Nehru style jacket with classic Armani jeans, Samuel opts for a more casual look than we’re used to on the red carpet – proving that he doesn’t need to be suited and booted to work that impeccable A-list style. The outfit is set off with a flash of cobalt blue in the form of his shagreen print tennis shoes – who said trainers were a no-go for premier-party footwear?

For a similar look you can pair this military feel linen jacket from Cold Method at My-wardrobe with blue jeans and a cool pair of your favourite trainers.

As for Samuel L. Jackson’s effortless sense of style, well that’s just something you’ll have to figure out how to get yourself.

Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs in Dries Van Noten

There’s that popular adage that all men look good in a suit, and Sean ‘P Diddy’ Combs proves this with his usual charm and swagger, as he looked quite the dapper fellow at the Met Costume Institute Gala earlier this week.

With a host of beautiful women to contend with in the style stakes, Diddy stepped it up with this luxe-finish Dries Van Noten suit accessorised with the usual bling – standard. The quirky addition of a bow tie mixed with his signature superstar shades makes the impeccably dressed Sean Combs a winner on the red carpet once again.

He may be a little flashy – but he is undeniably well-dressed – and if Diddy can’t be a bit flash, then who can?

Lou Dalton Mac

The Mac is undeniably cool, in fact it’s a wardrobe staple that will be found in many a stylish man’s wardrobe. Worn with an air of nonchalance and a mod-like swagger the mac is a smart choice when it comes to purchasing an investment outerwear piece.

For a slight twist on the classic mac, take a look at this retro-sporty offering from menswear designer Lou Dalton. Known for her distinctly British-feel designs that deliver sportswear inspired pieces with a rebellious streak, Lou has delivered this streamlined mac for SS10.

With horn buttons and a rounded collar and pocket detail, this mac is given an almost nautical feel. It’s this modern detailing mixed with the contemporary twist on the shape of the coat that makes it slightly smarter than the classic mac. Wear with a pair of straight fit blue jeans and add a turn up and a classic brogue for a simply styled look.

New fashion label from Vivienne Westwood’s son

benwestwood-040709

Dame Vivienne Westwood is no less than fashion queen when it comes to womenswear so when we found out that her son, Ben Westwood, was breaking into men’s fashion we just had to tell you.

Better known as a ladies erotic photographer it was no surprise to hear that he would be following in the footsteps of his mother and launching his own fashion line.

Comprising of jackets, trousers and shorts we can’t wait to see what he is made up. Especially as he is in direct competition with his father-in-law whom designs the MAN collection for Vivienne Westwood.

The Men of Glastonbury 2009

petedoherty-030709

Since Kate Moss donned her little hot-pants outfit to the UK’s favourite music event - Glastonbury – a few years ago, festival goers have treated the occasion like a bizarre, mud-filled catwalk - parading their finest (and often loudest) wardrobes to the masses. The best (or maybe worst) thing about this? There are no rules.

But let’s not limit this to the girls. And having said that, to the festival crowd themselves. Performers after all, are under the scrutiny of the fields of fashionistas, fans and cameras, and the men are no exception. Here’s a few that we’ve picked out:

Pete Doherty – Dressed in his faithful trilby hat, Pete chose a military/old band style top in a black and gold jersey material for his performance on The Other Stage. Thumbs up to Pete for the casual take on this formal theme. Although we’re not so sure about the navy blue polo shirt underneath, luckily Pete can pull off just about anything without it looking out of the ordinary.

The talk of Wimbledon – Roger Federer’s clothes!

rf-09

So, it’s less than a week until Wimbledon 2009 draws to a close. Memorable moment’s so far? Last year’s Men’s Single’s winner, Nadal, having to take a step back due to an on-going knee injury; Murray and Wawrinka battling it out in the first Wimbledon ‘night-time’ tournament – complete with Centre Court roof, and of course Wimbledon fashion.

Last week Maria Sharapova caused quite a stir when she stepped out onto court donning a crisp white, military-inspired jacket, while Venus Williams opted for the very un-summery trench coat. But it was Roger Federer’s outfit that really got the crowds talking.

Hand in Hand: Club Collar and Slim Tie

abd_1

Summer is here and with it comes scorching temperatures, humid air and, well a pleasant change of wardrobe and styling. To save yourself from the tyranny of the weather, one can consider rolling up those long sleeve shirts or ditching them in favor of a more suave short sleeve alternative. The latter option seems more viable seeing as this is the season to show some skin plus it wouldn’t seem remotely presumptuous to flaunt those biceps outside the gym!
