Mywardrobe.com AW10 Buyer’s Pick #2

Following the success of last week’s Buyer’s Pick debut feature from Lee Douros at mywardrobe.com we intend to waste no time bringing you the second instalment of his very stylish advice, this time in the form of his second pick from mywardrobe.com’s AW10 menswear collection.

Last week Lee talked us through a great reflective jacket from Stone Island that was guaranteed to be a talking point for fans of all thing tech-focused. With its heat sensitive qualities and glass microsphere technology the jacket is an amazing changing-colour dream coat, as well as being functional and waterproof…

This week Lee has chosen a great menswear accessory: this canvas messenger bag from heritage brand Belstaff is one of those pieces that’s bound to become a weekend staple – on-trend and perfect for when you’re out and about around town.

Here’s what Lee has to say:

‘The Mountain Messenger from iconic heritage brand Belstaff is a great addition to any weekend/off duty outfit.

Made from rugged cotton canvas and washed leather detailing, it ties in with the Outdoors trend that was evident in many Casualwear brands this season, who featured checked flannel shirts with elbow patch details, dirt and rusty coloured corduroy trousers and heavy weight Donegal knits amongst their key looks.

A bag that looks like you’ve had it for years (which due to the great craftsmanship, you will!), this a functional and practical piece from Great Outdoors powerhouse designers, Belstaff, that looks just as good when you’re darting through the city.’

We couldn’t agree more. Expect to spot them very soon on stylish-yet-rugged men riding bicycles, as they go about their enviably cool weekend plans…

The Belstaff messenger bag is available now at mywardrobe.com

Exclusive AW10 Buyer’s Picks from mywardrobe.com

We know all of our readers have impeccable style here at MFL for Him but a little bit of fashion advice never did anyone any harm, and with this in mind we’ve lined up a series of AW10 style picks from mywardrobe.com to get you outfit-ready for the coming season. But we also know that you’ll only take fashion advice from the best of those in the know so that’s why we’ve got mywardrobe’s sartorially savvy menswear buyer Lee Douros to take you though his picks for Autumn-Winter. And trust us, this is a guy that know his stuff.

So if we aren’t already, get us bookmarked now because we’ll be posting one of Lee’s very cool selections from mywardrobe’s AW10 collection each week – as well as his exclusive insight on the piece – so you can start looking forward to getting the lowdown from a real pro a little more often.

Lee’s first pick of the series is a great piece from Stone Island and it’s a really innovative addition to your wardrobe – tecchie fans take note: The Blue Liquid Reflective Coat has heat sensor technology which means that it changes colour depending the heat of your environment – pretty damn cool. To achieve this effect thousands of glass micropsheres are sprayed onto the jacket, which is then baked to set the colour and its reflective properties – that’s what we call impressive outerwear.

Here’s what Lee has to say:

‘The Blue Liquid Reflective Coat is a real landmark piece from Stone Island and we are happy to launch it for AW10 on my-wardrobe.com.

It encapsulates the brand’s constant research into technical advances in fabric construction by applying a liquid reflective coating over the base fabric which picks up direct light rays and bounces it back to the source. The styling of the jacket itself also keeps true to the brand’s ethos of functionality, featuring multi-zip-pocket detailing on the front, and a hood which is articulated and can be worn totally hidden, half extended – to create a neck insulator – or fully unzipped into a total head-covering hood.

The special badge on the shoulder also denotes this is a truly special piece. It is made in special white embroidery as opposed to the classic green and yellow to set the piece apart from the rest of the collection and highlight its limited number nature.

All in all, a real collector’s piece and one that will provide a great talking point, while keeping the wearer toasty through-out this and many winters to come.’

There you have it – straight from the fashion buyers mouth. We just can’t wait to see what Lee has in store for us, and you, next week.

3.1 Phillip Lim – “A key piece from the collection is the 2 in 1 cardi front shirt. I like the design twist of the exposed shirt back and the colour works really well for summery days. A great piece from the young designer making big waves across the Atlantic.”

APC – “A real winner from French brand APC, this shirt will be a wardrobe staple for seasons to come. Micro gingham is a really easy way to get pattern into an outfit. Team with rolled up chinos for a great Summer look.”

Belstaff – “The iconic Panther Jacket from Belstaff is reworked for the Summer in super supple perforated leather. Team with distressed jeans and check shirt for a great Americana look. Harley Davidson optional.”

Burberry – “A real must-have in every man’s wardrobe is a Burberry Trenchcoat in classic taupe. This washed cotton version works well dressed down or up, and once the weather gets cooler, a knit jumper and popped collar will keep you warm and dry.”

Grenson – “Brogues are a real winner at the moment, and Grenson have made the ultimate Summer pair in soft suede. Team with slim navy chinos and a washed cotton blazer and become the perfect Dapper Gent.”

Levi’s – “How to fault the denim originators, Levi’s? These 501s replicate an exact pair found dated to 1966 in cut and wash. And the selvedge edge looks great if you want to rock your jeans with a turn-up.”

Marc – “Cool NY brand offers up the perfect transeasonal trench in navy twill. I like this coat with the sleeves rolled up twice to reveal the patterned lining on the inside of the sleeves. And its slim cut means you’ll cut a dashing figure when worn buttoned and belted.”

Pretty Green – “Mr Gallagher gets all English Gent on us – who would have guessed?! The Striped Boating Blazer from new brand Pretty Green is a real winner. Excellent quality linen wool fabric is used, making it great for warm Summer evenings. And the pattern is cut by powerhouse tailor Nick Holland, so it fits perfectly.”

Westwood – “A classic piece from the Great Dame, this Double V Neck Knit features a true Westwood twist with the inserted deep v on the front neckline. Great for smartening up an outfit for a night out.”

YMC – “A classic piece from Brit brand YMC, the double zip front bomber has been a classic in their collection for a few seasons. This season it’s been realised in perforated nylon which makes it the perfect piece to throw over a tee on Summer evenings.”

We’re sure that’s more than enough to whet your shopping appetite for now so go on and fill your boots up at the my-wardrobe sale.

My-Wardrobe AW10 Preview

It’s not often that I find myself wanting to be someone else, and even less often that I find myself wishing to be the opposite sex, believe it or not. But whilst browsing the rails at My-wardrobe’s special Autumn-Winter menswear preview recently, a small part of me wished I was a shirt-wearing, boot don-ing man.

The event gave us a chance to get an exclusive sneak-preview of the pieces that My-wardrobe menswear has bought for the coming season – and what a treat they have in store. Rails of clothes from top designers including favourites APC, Lyle and Scott and YMC were put together to create a truly must-have collection.

Speaking to Lee Douros, menswear buyer for My-wardrobe, he sees a certain post WW2 work-wear look coming through for AW10, with distressed leather shearling jackets mixed with lumber jack feel shirts. Another trend to watch out for is the country gent, a look that can be achieved with Barbour type jackets and a careful mix of fabrics, including courdrouy. ‘I really see cords taking over from the summer chino for the relaxed trouser, ‘ says Lee.

As well as the new-season offerings from all your favourite labels, My-wardrobe has teamed up with a number of selected brands to create exclusive collaborations. One to watch is the cool collaboration with Grenson that has seen their brogued boot transformed into a multi-material exclusive – The Fred Boot. You’ll have to wait a few more months to get your hands on these and the rest of the new collection, but with only 25 pairs made it’s probably best to start queuing up now anyway.
